The Balloon Glow Never Disappoints

On Saturday Night, Main Street in Telluride was aglow.  Not with alpenglow, not with a concert, not with teh lioghts of all of teh restaurants splling through the windows.  Balloons was the reaso.

This is one of my favorite Telluride Summer events.  Every year, in the first weekend of June, its the Telluride Balloon Festival. And the Highlight is always Saturday Night.  Main Street (aka Colorado Avenue) closed and the hot air balloonsa take over the street and get blown up with the flames that create such a dramtic look.

And then everyone comes out.  The restaurants and bars hustle and bustle.  Smiles from ages 1 to 92.  Its just so much damn fun.

Each morning of the weekened at around 7:00 am,  the Balloons will try to fly from Telluride Town Park over the hisrotic town to land on the San Miguel Valley Floor.

So why doesn't Telluride have a commercial balloon service?  Well?  Its the Box Canyon's fault.  The red rock canyon walls are too tight and as the weather warms up, the air rolls off those walls making it unsafe to fly.

So you have plently of time to prepare for 2027.  

And don't worry, Telluride has plently of other fun events coming up.  The next place you'll see me?  It'll be music at the free Augment Series in Elks Park, this Tuesday evening.

After that?  I'll stick to music at The Telluride Blkuegrass Festival and go see The Tedeschi Trucks Band on Thursday June 18th.
