Paddling the San Miguel River

Paddling the San Miguel River. Yesterday, after peddling some real estate with LIV Sotheby's International Realty I decided to paddle the San Miguel River right from the town of Telluride.

This activity is a must do.  Seriously.  It only flows high enough for about a month from mid May through mid June due to the run off of the snowpack.

We chose to drop in off of Mahoney Drive on the west end of the town of Telluride, since I live close by at Owl Meadows and Sol Paddleboards are light enough to carry down to the River. We also dropped a car in advance, in Lawson Hill, about 3 miles downstream.

The float navigated a few rapids and beaver dams, but all in all was pretty chill.  Pack a lunch or some beverages and stop along the way to enjoy the fine views, old Galloping Goose Railroad bed, some wildlife and one of the most unique things you can do in all of the Rocky Mountains.

The pull out is easy, and if you have the time, grab a reward at the Telluride Bewing Company, just a short walk if you pull out at the Lawson Hill Ballfield.  That's the last stop anyway.

A reminder to wear lifevests, shoes and maybe even a helmet as it can be tricky, especially for kids. But do it.  You'll never forget how cool it is.
