Paddling the Mighty San Miguel River
Want to do one of the coolest things that there is to do in Telluride, Colorado? Paddleboard the San Miguel River. It was awesome yesterday as the snow runoff was in full effect.
How do you get started? Well, get the gear first. If you don't have a Sol Paddleboard (owned and operated in Telluride) you can rent one from any of the local shops, like Jagged Edge. Don't forget a life vest, dry bag, and necessary supplies like lunch, drinks and sunblock!
Drop a car at the Lawson Hill ballfield.
Drive back into Telluride and park in the Shandoka Parking Lot and unload.
Cross the River Trail and drop that board in the water.
When the river is running high, it will take about an hour to float back, and as the water flow decreases it will take up to 2 hours. There will be a point in mid July where it will be too low to float.
It is so much fun. The scenery. Friends. and just so unique.
Don't forget to stop at the Telluride Brewing Company for your favorite out in Lawson Hill. All I know is that Lager I had was extra delicious after a paddle, dunk (yes I fell in) and the exercise that I got.
And call me, because I wanna go. Again. And again.
