Observations of the Telluride Ski Resort
Observations of the Telluride Ski Resort during its opening and how they are operating during the COVID pandemic. I was lucky to snowboard a little each day of the Thanksgiving Weekend.
Overall I was very impressed with how it all is being handled. The Gondola has the most impact, with 1 rider or related party per cabin. So prepare for a longer wait back and forth to town. The line appears longer than it really is. But with some more snow and some snowmaking, the front side of the mountain will be open, taking off some of the burden.
The lift lines moved quick and just about everyone followed the mask and distancing protocol. Very few people were upset on the lines, but they moved quick and I felt safe. The lift operators and ticket checkers all did a nice job.
I also checked out Gorrono. This was almost normal. Again lines are a little longer for drinks, but distancing was observed. Food was only available to be ordered outside the front doors.
Ski School was also operational.
All in all, I thought the Telluride Ski Resort did a good job doing their best to keep everyone safe. If we can stay safe at home now (other than skiing) and keep social activity group sizes down and try to be healthy, we should have a full ski season.
