Great News for Telluride Affordable Housing
Great news for Telluride affordable housing, as it looks like one of the biggest projects in recent memory may get off the ground.
Spearheaded by the Mountain Village, this 56 acre parcel is located in the Ilum Valley, very close to Highway 145 and Keystone Hill.
Why is it so good? We could, could build up to 1,120 units, and I think we should maximize that number and get as close to it as possible, as the land can't accommodate that many units. But can we get to half? I think we missed an opportunity on the new Hillside project by not trying to upzone it as much as possible for affordable housing.
Other reasons: Housing will only improve that immediate area, which has a lot of light industrial use and improve upon it. We need more mixed-use mini communities here. It can be easily added to the SMART Transportation system. There are plenty of hiking and biking trails close by. The drive time is 10 minutes to town. It's on the San Miguel River and maybe that can add some recreational components, too.
We are a regional resort and need to solve problems regionally.
