Alpino Vino. Don't miss it
Sunday. Fun Day. And certainly, I took advantage of that. How? By snowboarding on the Telluride Ski Resort and treating myself to lunch at Alpino Vino. What a treat. This could be the best on mountain lunch in all of North Amercian Ski Country.
It was a bluebird day. Highs were in the 40's as we descended upon the Polar Queen Express and over to the newly opened terrain on the Lift 6 chair. Yes, I'm an old timer that cannot remember some of the lift's "new" names. After some skiing, it was time to enjoy ourselves a little more
The short walk up See Forever Trail led us to Alpino Vino for lunch.
We were welcomed with the corner table on the deck, and there wasn't even a need for the heater. First item on the agenda? Two glasses of the Telluride Blend from Sutcliffe Vineyards, a blend made by the Telluride Ski Resort sommelier Andrew Shaffner, and Oulli Durham, now of Communion Wine bar.
Before we could even take one sip, the deck had cleared out the restaurant was all to ourselves. It was time for the Lobster Tagliatelle. The chunks of Lobster were so delicious and even at 11,000 feet, pasta cooked perfectly. Here's a Telluride tip. Water boils at a lower temperature in high altitude so you have to cook it longer. With that was the grilled cheese panini and tomato bisque, a perfect compliment to a winters day.
Soon enough Ski Patrol came down to shoo us off for one last run into the Mountain Village.
That was a wonderful Sunday.
Do not miss Alpino Vino when you come to ski Telluride. Just ski by around 11 am and put your name on the list. And enjoy. Then repeat.
